Please read: broken redirect links solution

Hi!

Yesterday I emailed to let you know that guywindsor dot net and swordschool dot com were temporarily taken offline while we recover from a serious security incident. In the short term both those urls now redirect to swordschool.shop, where there’s a blog post explaining the situation.

Thank you for all the kind messages, they’ve been much appreciated.

I’ve put together a temporary solution for one of the biggest problems: the redirect links used throughout my books.

Many of my books and downloadable resources use short, easy-to-type links (such as guywindsor.net/vadi23r) to take you to videos, PDFs, and other online material. While the websites are offline, those redirect links won’t work, but the resources themselves are perfectly safe.

To make things easier, I’ve created a free downloadable spreadsheet containing the direct replacement links. I’ve left out links to blog posts and other pages on the affected websites, but it still contains around 400 video links.

You can download it here:

Redirect Links for Guy Windsor Books (Free Download)

The links are organised alphabetically by slug, with markers showing which book they belong to where possible.

If you still can’t find what you’re looking for, just reply to this email and I’ll send you the direct link. As I said yesterday, I trust my readers, so there’s no need for proof of purchase.

Technically, this is a terrible idea. A significant part of the value of my books is in those linked resources. But I’d rather a hundred people got access to something they hadn’t paid for than one student lose access to something they’re entitled to.

The good news is that the rest of the Swordschool ecosystem is working normally. Swordpeople, Teachable, the Swordschool Shop, Vimeo, and my email are all unaffected.

I’m sorry for the disruption. Restoring the websites securely is my top priority, and once they’re back online I’ll also be moving the redirect service onto a separate system so that a problem like this can’t interrupt access again.

I have one favour to ask: not everyone who buys my books is on my mailing list, so they may be sitting there getting frustrated when the links don’t work. Please forward this email to anyone you think may be affected, and if you come across anyone stuck in link purgatory online, please share the link to the spreadsheet. Here it is again: https://swordschool.shop/products/redirect-links-for-guy-windsor-books-free-download

Thanks again for your patience and support, it really does make a difference.

Yours,

Guy

Guy Windsor's Swordschool

Dr. Guy Windsor is a world-renowned instructor and a pioneering researcher of medieval and renaissance martial arts. He has been teaching the Art of Arms full-time since founding The School of European Swordsmanship in Helsinki, Finland, in 2001. His day job is finding and analysing historical swordsmanship treatises, figuring out the systems they represent, creating a syllabus from the treatises for his students to train with, and teaching the system to his students all over the world. Guy is the author of numerous classic books about the art of swordsmanship and has consulted on swordfighting game design and stage combat. He developed the card game, Audatia, based on Fiore dei Liberi's Art of Arms, his primary field of study. In 2018 Edinburgh University awarded him a PhD by Research Publications for his work recreating historical combat systems. When not studying medieval and renaissance swordsmanship or writing books Guy can be found in his shed woodworking or spending time with his family.

Hi You may have noticed that my websites guywindsor.net and swordschool.com are currently down. This is thanks to a malicious code attack on my wife’s website that is hosted on the same servers, which we are working to fix. This means that those sites will be down for a while, I don’t know how long. During that time all the redirect links (especially to videos) you'll find in my books won’t work. Fortunately they are only redirects: the video hosting platform I use (Vimeo) is unaffected. If...

Zines

BOOKS PODCAST COURSES COMMUNITY BLOG Hi! I’ve been in a bit of a zine-making frenzy this week. It started innocently enough. I’ve been updating the Swordschool Wiki, and we’ve now reached a major milestone: every one of Fiore’s 70+ dagger plays now has its own page, with the image from the Getty manuscript, my translation, and my interpretation on video. You can explore the whole lot here, along with a goodly chunk of the longsword plays, and all of the abrazare. Fiore on the Wiki Working...

BOOKS PODCAST COURSES COMMUNITY BLOG Hi! Two quick updates that couldn’t wait until next week… Last Saturday’s Smallsword webinar went really well, with excellent questions and discussion from everyone who attended. There’s one more live session tomorrow morning (8am UK time), so if you’ve been thinking about upping your smallsword game, there’s still time to join us. One of the strongest pieces of feedback was that people wanted another practical webinar—this time on Point Control. So I’ve...
